Abstract: I want to take you on a slightly ramshackle tour of randomized benchmarking, shadow tomography and other related protocols, focusing on things that I think are of interest to a theory-audience. I'll try to cover variances, gate dependence in noise, error mitigation, as well as some interesting large deviation behaviour involving the Clifford group.
